v4l and kodacom 4400
I have been running a openSUSE 11.0 system with ZM 1.23 and any time it reboots, I have to go to Yast and reset the TVcard (kodicom). Otherwise I get no /dev/video devices. On a new system, a tri-core AMD, with openSUSE 11.1 and ZM 1.24 gives me the same results. Both ZM systems were installed using ...

Seeing a set of ZM systems in a tree
I'm considering setting up multiple ZM systems with 2 or more capturing videos and one or more doing composite display from the others. With the IP input capabilities where it sees the streaming video it should be able to get streaming video from another ZM system. Is there a way of getting each of ...

VIA must not be a culprit!
I have also used it on some Via boards. You do not need much HP, if you have few cameras and no GUI.
So why the the old wives tale about VIA not functioning with DVR's so dominant in the industry and does not go away? Or does the VIA board not use ANY VIA chips? As I've ...

Now working fine
After the manual (script based) deletes, it got down to 72% and started recording properly. I'll check out zmaudit.pl. It apparently was not running in the background, or the system doesn't have enough CPU to handle it. It does 5 cameras with an average of 1.5 fps. No IP cameras yet but some planned ...

New information
I went down and looked at the ZM server, and deleted via zm older events, leaving about 2 weeks on each camera, and set cameras to monitor only. Then I did a 'df' and found the drive was at 100% usage. One thing strange about that is that it has never added 40% of disk usage in a couple of days. Now ...

Loss of capturing alarm frames for hours then fine
This is an openSUSE 10.3 system with ZM v 1.23.3. For the last several months, it has recored the frames properly so they can be viewed. Recently it started having 'black outs' where the image live is fine, alarms are triggered, a numbered directory created, but no frames get stored. This will go on ...

Single shifting up of a display - 4 others work well
I set up a system with openSUSE 10.3 and used the repository to install: ZoneMinder-1.23.3-6.1.i586.rpm. Using one Kodicom 4400. To get it to work, I used the /etc/modprobe.d/tv from the system that has been running reasonably well for 6 months (it had zm v1.22). It looked identical to what Yast ...

Would be convienent
This system had gotten bad enough so that the database repair couldn't fix all the problems, even after repeated attempts. It would finish with some errors fixed each time. I ended up putting a new hard drive in and reinstalling everything. The drive wasn't bad, but I'm saving it to recover data on ...

Camera wiring
If you are doing wired cameras, use baluns and twisted pair cable (cat5/6 works well) to get the signal to the DVR. It's easy to run, easier to hide, and can go a much longer distance than coax, and you also have to get power to the camera, which another pair will provide. It also allows two cameras ...

Doing a repair currently and ...
I had to shut down zm and the web functioning to make it work. As long as there is any connection with a browser to the zm html, it errors and says that there is a connection to the database. Even without that, it is taking a long time - about 3 hours now and still running, yet Ksysmonitor shows ...

What I resorted to
cd .../zm/events/1 rm event#1/* rm event#2/* rm event#3/* rm event#4/* rm event#5/* rm event#6/* etc. rmdir * This works but take a lot of manipulation, is extreamly slow, and very frustrating. Also, I have to do it every 2 to 3 days before it stops saving new events at 100% usage on the disk. I'm ...

Filter problem
On a system with 3 cameras, one 4 port board, and a 120 G HD, it fill up in about 4 to 5 days. I used to be able to go to filters, select an even by camera, date & time and view. I could also check all int the list and delete old images. It was slow to actually remove them. So then I selected the ...

Sata on SiS chips didn't get supported
I have two motherboards with a 5 year old design sata chip by SiS that was not supported until the 2.6.2x kernel. My point is that the hardware is progressing far faster than the support for it in Linux, and dropping legacy items. The video input card manufacturers should be introducing cards that ...
