Re: Zoneminder helped in an arrest!

Here are some pics I captures of some punks messing with a parked and covered car in my driveway. I called the police and told them I had video evidence, amazingly they were totally not interested. They did not even file a report or want to see the pictures. Basically, unless they actually steal or ...

Re: WAR Corrupt JPEG data: 1 extraneous bytes before marker

I have seen this error in my logs across many versions of Zoneminder, on different servers, operating systems, etc. I think it is an issue with libjpeg, but it has also occured to me with various versions of libjpeg as well. I have scratched my head many times trying to figure this out and finally ...

Errors with zms (viewing events)

Just in case anything is relevant I am going to summarize the whole story: 1. I had a completely working ZM 1.24.2 Install w/ 3 bttv cams and 1 UVC cam (which as actually plugged into another machine and accessed via mjpeg-streamer because I could never get it to work locally) 2. I upgraded to ...

Re: ZM 1.24.2-8ubuntu1 on ubuntu 11.04 with bt878 card DOESN

Update: I removed the zoneminder package (1.24.2) and did a manual compile+install of 1.24.4 and my bttv devices work again. Now my only problem is trying to also get a uvcvideo device working simultaenously with the v4l2 driver instead of as a remote network cam (with mjpeg-streamer)

Re: ZM 1.24.2-8ubuntu1 on ubuntu 11.04 with bt878 card DOESN

I'm having pretty much the exact same problem. System was working fine. Did a dist upgrade to 11.04 and now only my monitor that points to a network camera works. All of my bttv devices do not work and no obvious errors.

I use an IPhone app called "cam viewer" that has built in zoneminder support. Well, as far as easily accessing the live and still streams. It has a thumbnail/montage mode as well as allowing you to touch a cam and go fullscreen. Here are some screenshots from my phone of a ZM setup that is part of ...

Well I tried turning off the reference image blend, and it ended up having the effect of the monitoring constantly being in an alarm state. I found this out when it recorded for 24 hours straight and filled up the disk :) So maybe I should instead go into the zone settings and reduce the reference ...

The MP doesn't matter so much as the resolution of the captured frames. The highest resolution I have used with ZM is 960x720. Higher resolutions require more CPU to deal with, and subsequently more disk space and shared memory required. ZM works fine with network cameras, I do not forsee any ...

Best way to avoid event segmentation?

I just had an issue where an event being segmented made me lose some very valuable frames. I have a monitor set for modetect mode, and when there is motion for say 60 seconds, instead of recording a 60 second event, it is recording 10 mini events. In this case there was a 12 second gap between two ...

You can change monitor settings and call them via a cron job (see http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_can_I_get_ZM_to_do_different_things_at_different_times_of_day_or_week.3F) However this only works for monitor settings, not zone settings. To do this you must dynamically tweak the zone ...

You are on the right track. I know someone who uses a php script to dynamically alter monitor/zone settings by tweaking values in the mysql database.

If you will never have a need to record events, maybe mjpeg-streamer is what you are looking for. It provides a web interface to access a video snapshot or stream to a USB/UVC webcam.

I've done 960x720 with a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 and the images were very clear. If you want to sacrifice performance you can use YUV mode instead of MJPEG (mjpeg-streamer) which will allow you to reduce image compression/quality higher than 80%

When using an mjpeg-streamer source, your "Remote Host Path" should be "/?action=snapshot", rather than the stream method you are using. I also recommend using the "start.sh" that comes with mjpeg-streamer, and uncomment the line you want to use, as that script sets the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable for ...
