Weeks later - a short note
I am still very disappointed with the USB subsystem. I tested and tested and tested and reached some stable booting order for USB cameras. Now, a month later, I had a random crashdown (probably due to electricity or new year eve load). And after the restart - the booting order of USB cameras is not ...

Well, I see some more possible extensions regarding the video export. 3. A dropdown menu describing quality profiles (and these defined elsewhere). I am missing the output option suitable for DVD authoring (4:3 PAL 720x576 I-frame 15-th mpeg). Why this? Because to produce some legally non-binding ...

The installation playbook for ZM1.23-3 and Debian Etch
I have tried to document a suitable installation sequence of ZM 1.23 on Debian Etch. I believe this is a valuable information because as for me, I spent 4 weeks on details and 3 temporary installations to learn and plan a proper installation (and I have 15 yrs of Unix administration and teaching ...

The most intelligent solution will be to find out where apache config files are (usually under /etc/apache2) and make changes at two rows: DocumentRoot /var/www/ Directory /var/www/ Put whatever you need instead of /var/www/ and then restart Apache: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart . And do not forget ...

What will xawtv expose when used at the same source? Is the card itself OK? In case you have X-less computer, it's still possible to record images from /dev/video*, use something like: ffmpeg -s 320x240 -vd /dev/video0 test.mpg . I have an old Boeder capture card (without tuner) which worked fine 8 ...

Some usbcam heresy - the criticism is wanted
These are my personal observations and conclusions (and possibly mistakes). Any criticism is welcome. It seems like everybody serious is only using IP cameras with ZM. USB webcams are used mostly for testing or under some other hidden limitations (e.g. all USB cameras are UVC only or, of a certain ...

The end of the monologue : E3500 works OK
And now the end of the monologue. Of course, and as usually, the issue was not camera related but was located somewhere between the monitor and the chair. E3500 camera works absolutely well , it's MJPG also being extremely compatible. E3500 actually supports either 320x240 or 640x480 . Meanwhile ...

It depends what your experience is as sysadm and user. It also depends how familiar you are with actual file locations within ZM. My fist ZM installation was with X - it was convenient to test the cameras with xawtv... My second installation is without the X. It occurs that one actually can test ...

Video export: event grouping, In/Out marks
Semipro DV editing has certainly influenced my mind... and I see these features missing: 1. The possibility to define IN and OUT points while making video export. The problem is that sometimes, due to prolonged side action (cars maneuvring nearby) or crucial weather conditions, you'll get a too ...

Logitech E3500 switching from YUV to MJPG fails
Seems like the monologue ;) Well, spent some hours and the reason for 22 bytes reply is very simple. The uvcvideo kernel module (Debian 2.6.26-1) will never allow you switching back from YUV to MJPEG. So the right restoration sequence after you once used 176x144 YUV mode is: killall mjpg_streamer ...

Re: Canyon CNR-WCAM413 is uvc mjpg_stream352x288 on Debian E
The camera that started to work without hassle, was CNR-WCAM413 . It costs some 225 EEK (15EUR) here in Estonia, in Prisma food shop  . The google'able USB string is 0ac8:3340. The camera has been looking outside for one week. It is behind the 5mm window glass at floor 0, warmly packed into ...

Re: High resolution issues with Logitech E3500 via mjpg_stre
The known fact for UVC cameras seems to be that better resolutions will dictate MJPG mode. I managed to cite the "known fact": slbpatrol discussed it at Sun Sep 16, 2007 11:55 am at http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10334 . He actually advises the problem could be related to the ...
