12.04 was a nightmare for me... I would go back to 11.
If you are sticking with 12 , my guess is that Java is not ... or is incorrectly installed. Current distro's don't include jre as it must now be downloaded from oracle.

Re: Effio cameras (650-700TV)
I get the capture card part, I have had a working zone minder installation for many years. I am looking for any tips on configuring ZM with these types of cameras

Re: Effio cameras (650-700TV)
Any update on the best settings for these camera's?
I picked up a couple this week to replace some older B&W cams.
They seem to work out of the box with BTTV 640x480, but I haven't tried capturing anything yet.

Cron Job
I never did solve the problem of apache hanging with zoneminder. In the end I just set up a cron job with the following httpd -k restart I run it at the top of every hour and have now been running ZM with Firefox for a few weeks without problem. The only downside is the montage window needs to be ...

A few others have had the same issues discussed in the following thread. "Apache instances/responsiveness issue...solved" , unfortunately it is not. I have tried montage view in many different browsers and I get the same problem with apache hanging. Apache seems to open many connections eventually ...

top -u apache
Below is the output of top -u apache when the httpd is un-responsive. When the system has no/few connections the apache cpu reading is 2% to 3%. The problem only occurs when I leave the montage running on my 3 camera system. (2 analog cams and 1 USB). I have been using firefox and seamonkey but I ...

update with server-status output
Alrighty... I got apache server-status up and running, thanks for the tips. I'll add one more.. make sure that you add your local subnet to the following in /etc/httpd/extra/httpd-info.conf or you will get permission denied when you try to load server-status. <Location> SetHandler server-status ...

updated apache
Thanks for the tips on apache. I have used httpd.conf in the past but didn't notice that you could call other configuration files from within. I have updated the recommended files and will report back with any additional outputs. I did delete my USB Cam last night and ZM/Httpd has run for 24 hours ...

no luck!
No luck, the KeepAliveTimeout "fix" didn't help.
I am using Firefox which may be part of the problem as many people have similar issues with version 3.

Thanks for the tip
I am running ZM 1.24 on a Slackware 12.2 install and I have had the same issue with apache intermittently locking up. When running two cam's on a BTTV 878 card it happens once or twice a week. I added a USB_CAM today and it now happens every hour. Just tried your KeepAliveTimeout suggestion to see ...

Same issue on Slackware with Firefox
I can confirm the same problem with Slackware 12.2 when I use Firefox 3.0.4 so I don't think it is limited to one distro.
I haven't confirmed the root cause, but if I use IE I don't get the issue.
What version of Firefox are you running that fixes the problem?

ZM not writing events
Your problem sounds very similar to something that I pulled my hair out with for 2 weeks. In the end I found the error was the syntax that I used for the events directory under the options tab under paths. In input /events as my directory which does not work and all the logs output is that ZM can't ...
