Re: ZoneMinder vs. Axis Camera Station vs. dedicated network
Thank you for the info. The first few cameras I've bought were Axis 221s and they came with an Axis Camera Management app that installed easily and just worked so that's what came to mind. I did not now about the other apps you mentioned and it would be good to not be forced to use only Axis cameras ...

ZoneMinder vs. Axis Camera Station vs. dedicated network DVR
There didn't seem to be a good forum to post this in so here goes, feel free to move it to a more appropriate spot. I hope this question doesn't piss anyone off, it's not my intent to start a war here. After a few thefts around the house I'm setting up some surveillance cameras. We have a large ...

With north facing cameras under an overhang so there's no direct sun, is there any reason why an outdoor camera housing cannot be painted a darker color?

They said to just do sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get install zoneminder Which seemed to install everything, but apparently it doesn't set things up right. I'll try again using the ...

Thanks for the response. I am working locally.
http://localhost only brings up a screen that says "It works".
http://localhost/index.php results in a 404 Not Found.
There is no index.html in /usr/share/zoneminder but there is an index.php.

ZM running but how do I *view* it?
I'm sure this is a really stupid newbie question but I've read the docs and searched the FAQs and can't find the answer. Running Kubuntu 8.10 and downloaded zm via installer. It installed and a bunch of zm scripts are running, including zmdc.pl, zmfilter.pl, zmaudit.pl, zmwatch.pl, zmupdate.pl. But ...
