To answer directly, yes, you can definitely use a dedicated hard drive. You can:
A: use symbolic links for the events, images, & sounds folders
B: change the paths in the web "Options/Paths" tab
Of course, follow the documentation for full details.

Hmm... very strange issue. I have a 11.3 box running ZM with mmap running. I did have to use CPAN for a few modules, but most of what is needed is in standards packages. I used the standard ffmpeg 0.5.x packages and then compiled ZM 1.24.2 from source. Oh, don't forget the libarch=64 and many other ...

Your issue sounds like one of the following: A: either you are not setting the proper native resolution B: you have not selected the correct color palette C: your cam might not support video for Linux (there are resources to confirm this on the net) As a sample, my cheap nightvision usb cam uses the...

Update: I found a work-around for the nph-zms path failure. It is late and I am tired. However, here are some rough notes in case they help any one else. Issue 1. The cgi path in PATH_ZMS will only work if the binaries are one level from the root. For example: PATH_ZMS = /cgi-bin/nph-zms : Works PAT...

Re: Installation on OpenSuse 11.1 installs, but fails to run
Actually this insures that all files and logs created are owned by root and promiss that ZM can not run as required user. Man err This was just a test. I cleared the log files and doubled-checked all permissions. After more debugging, I found the issue is not PHP, but instead the ZMS or NPH-ZMS bin...

Ah, I have figured out part of the problem, there seems to be a bug in the php or ajax somewhere. I was so busy checking invalid libraries and dependencies that it did not occur to me to check the apache logs. I finally checked the web log and found this: [Mon Jun 08 10:38:06 2009] [error] [client 1...

Installation on OpenSuse 11.1 installs, but fails to run
Hello, I am running into a strange issue with ZoneMinder and am wondering if any one might have any idea as to what is wrong. Here is the summary: OpenSuse 11.1 * Created Apache alias directory for zoneminder (using /etc/apache2/conf.d/) and installed web files to alternate location /srv/www/zm * Ac...
