I couldn't justify the cost if it wasn't going to work so I shelled out a little more for a bt878 based card. It looks like the link in the first post hasn't had any new code changes in a while. At the time it looked like it was still going and might be viable.

Does anyone know if the performance of any of these chips has been compared: BT878a, SAA7130, CX23881 and/or TW680x? I want to know if there is a noticeable difference between 8-bit (878), 9-bit (7130) and 10-bit (23881 / 680x) as far as processing power, so that I can pick a card that will use the ...

From the differences between the two I can spot at the techwell website: the 6805 can operate on a 66mhz clock and has lower power consumption.
