right, after much messing about, I am now able to gain access to the Console to set up new monitors/zones. I cannot however see these... I found somewhere that to test the signal from the camera one should use Xawtv. I installed this and the input source was fine and I have used the Zoneminder ...

i have tried all of these in terminal. and both 'Edited' and 'Alias' are unknown commands... I am to include these? Sorry for being such a noob!
