First step is to enable debugging (as described in documentation), and then post us some snippets of your logs in /tmp/zm*.log. Also check /var/log/syslog. That's a good place to start.

What kind of specs does your system have? Also, I'm not sure, but I think your system has to be restarted for the kernel memory parameters to take effect, or you need to run sysctl/sysconfig (something like that).
