Using OpenSuse 11.4 and that repository for PHP Serialization everything installed and is working fine now.

I'll try a couple of other things, as well as (another) fresh install of OpenSuse on the weekend, and will report back in case someone else has this same problem.

Pls forgive my limited Linux knowledge in advance :-), But I haven't installed ZM that way. I have normally done it via instructions here: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_using_ZoneMinder_RPMs_for_SuSE I have tried via YaST, YUM and command line RPM install and the messages ...
