People who have tried various approaches to updating to 1.24.4 are trying that too.

I solved my problem by dumping that install and starting over according to this guide:

It worked perfectly.

I now have analog and ip cams working perfectly on hardware I have struggled with for weeks!

It worked perfectly. I just grabbed a boot iso and did a network install of centos 5.6... then it was really copy/paste.
