Got it.
OK, it's 10pm and I just got it. That took a while! Too late to try it now, but I will give it a go tomorrow.

I'm all over it.
OK, I'm all over it.
I just got done downloading PCLinuxOS with FDM (Free Download Manager), and now I've installed Azureus and am doing my first ever BitTorrent download to get CTU.
If CTU does not work, you will hear the screams.

LiveCD
I wonder if I could try to install the original LiveCD and then swap out the kernel - or is that something crazy? If it would even install...

Disabling
I don't believe I can disable one processor, I believe it would have to be removed, and that may or may not require a voltage regulator to be put in its place.
I will check the specs on the Intel L440GX+ motherboard and see what I can do.

Currently...
Current PClos includes kernel-pclos-i586-up-1GB-2.6.11.oci12.mdk-1-1oci, and I'll bet I have trouble even installing with that, but I'll give it a try. The other LiveCD reports a kernel panic, but here's hoping with this one!

F3
From what I'm reading, F1 ran OK on the NetServer with MegaRaid, but F2 and F3 do not... I will try the PCLinuxOS - is there anything I need to do other than downloading the LiveCD and installing it? You mention there is an SMP option that can be added, and would that require me to download a ...

No Joy with Mandriva, how about this?
The regular LiveCD does not have an SMP kernel, so I thought I would try Mandriva. Mandriva 2005 LE will not install on either of my SMP boxes, one being an Intel 440GX+ with dual Pentium II's, and the other an HP NetServer 6000r U3 with dual Pentium III Xeon's. All sorts of different errors, am ...

Thanks
rdmelin, thank you for responding, and thanks for referring to my other thread! In response, no I did not figure out exactly where to install Firefox, nor how to remove it from the LiveCD distro! I'm still learning... I have a several-hundred page document to read called "Linux From Scratch" that ...

How safe and secure is LiveCD?
I've read the "readmes" on the LiveCD, and I'm pretty sure I've reduced the user account to appropriate security and changed all the passwords... So how secure is this box otherwise? When I install a new Windows box I put a software firewall like ZoneAlarm on it, and anti-spyware software and anti ...

Virtual Server
Now that I've got the dual-processor server up and running, I will temporarily keep Windows Server 2003 on the box, install MS Virtual Server on top of that, and then I will try installing the LiveCD into a Virtual Server environment and report back on how that works (or IF it works.) Eventually ...

Yeah!
Thanks for your replies. I've been reading a lot in the past few weeks about the different Linux distros, and here's what I've learned... - I am a long-time Windows guru, and it sucks feeling like an idiot :D - Linux suffers from being Open Source as much as it benefits. Windows is Windows, but ...

Aha
Aha, gotcha. I did a bunch of reading on Suse, Mandriva, and Fedora, and I think I am going to stick with Mandriva. I need to search the forums to see if people are having any trouble with Mandriva 2005 LE... If I understand correctly, a lot of times you have to have a very specific (and sometimes ...
