Its the image directory taking up most of the space but I don't know what it is safe to delete.
I guess find . -name \*.jpg | xargs rm -f rather than rm -f is safer.
Of course that leaves the database with dangling events.
I'm sure there is a better way.

Manual Purge
It seems I was wrong and zoneminder does at least partially repair the cache itself.
I can happily playback events in firefox but for some reason not chrome. Though both browsers display the live feed perfectly.

Repair directory structure after 'manual purge'
Hi, I got zoneminder v1.25 working but found that it filled up my remainging disk space 4Gb overnight. As I hadn't set-up a purgewhenfull filter yet. Unwisely I chose to rm -rf the full directory of /var/cache/zoneminder/1/events/. I expected zoneminder to recreate any directories needed as required ...

Re: Initial setup: Black screen
Also to answer my own question the logs are now in the database rather than in /var/log/zm.
This is presumably because it makes them more convenient to administer remotely
(I don't know where to look for a definitive statement on that).

Re: Noob webcam set-up questions [SOLVED]
Its not really understood but my problem is solved.
I went for the nuclear option, dropped the database and re-installed 1.25

Re: Initial setup: Black screen [SOLVED]
I have no idea what the problem was but the solution was to drop the ZM database and re-install.
I'm marking this as solved but really I'd still like to know what the problem was.
The nuclear option should ideally be a last resort.

Re: Initial setup, all sources red, exit status 255
I'm not sure if it will help you but I found my zoneminder started to work when dropped the zm database and re-installed.
Note that this is after upgrading to 1.25 as well. So I've no idea what was broken that is now fixed.

Initial setup: Black screen
Hi, I am still wrestling with the initial setup of ZM. I now have both a USB webcam and an IP cam both of which work outside of ZM. I started on 1.24 but was automatically upgraded to 1.25 when I upgraded Ubuntu to 12.04. The database update went smoothly. One odd thing I notice since the upgrade is ...

Re: Initial setup, all sources red, exit status 255
I have exactly the same problem see:
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... 21&t=19192
Unfortunately I don't have the solution yet.
I can tell you that upgrading to 1.25 will not help (not that I expected it to).

Re: Noob webcam set-up questions
Hi, I'm still stuck on the same black screen. I've now got an IP cam which I can get snapshots out of using a URL in a browser e.g. http://192.168.0.178/snapshot.cgi?user=foo&pwd=bar&resolution=32&rate=6 but nothing shows in ZM. In /var/log/zm/zmdc.log I have entries for the new cam as: 05/12/12 03 ...

Re: Noob webcam set-up questions
I set up /etc/udev/rule.d for that as suggested elsewhere on this site (I was going to post how but it phpBB thinks its spam even though there are no URLs) I tried what you suggested just in case but no joy. I'm also trying the ffmpeg approach. It seems to sort of work. A few events were recorded. A ...

Buttons missing on chrome
Hi, I'm a new user. I just noticed that the camera buttons appear on firefox but not chrome - see attached png. As I was using chrome to start with I didn't even know there was supposed to be any buttons! I'm running zomeminder 1.24.4 set up on ubuntu 11.10 (though not yet set-up correctly as my ...

Re: Debian package apparently abandoned
I guess this explains why installing using apt-get install zoneminder on Ubuntu gives me version 1.24.4 rather than 1.25.X?

Noob webcam set-up questions
Hi, I'm trying to set up zoneminder for the first time. I'm using: ubuntu 11.10 zoneminder 1.24 (installed using the debian package - i.e. apt-get install zoneminder) The website side of the set-up seems to have gone okay. I can see h t t p ://localhost/zm/index.php and configure new monitors. I ...

Re: Best way to feed a Windows USB webcam to ZoneMinder
Bump.
I haven't got my basic ZoneMinder set-up to work yet but this will be the next question I'll ask.
It sounds like it ought to be FAQ.
Given that most laptops have built-in webcams these days. It would be nice to hook into this for guarding the laptop this way.
