No need for concerns, because as much advantages the rPath way offers, it has nothing to do with binding a certain software package to such a conary based distro, because development of the package itself is not touched in any way. If there will be an rPL based zoneminder distro, it's all about ...

The benefits of rPath do not have anything to do with locking the machine down completely. I know that distros, for which zoneminder packages are available, or for which instructions for an installation from source exist, can work quite well even as a domU installation, but this is about the ...

Has the Zoneminder Team considered an own distribution?

There are some very interesting developments in the Linux world: Take for example the AsteriskNOW project, which is using rPath Linux with the Conary next generation software management system as base, and with that it's just a few easy steps in rBuilder Online to create several different releases ...

Hm, to install ZM in Ubuntu does not seem to cause any problem, see for example the guide in the wiki at http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_6.06_-_Dapper The problem will be solely to package it up into a valid and ready to use .deb package. I may take a look at it, as soon as I have it ...

That's the problem, I would like to help, but I'm a total Ubuntu newbie, which means, Kubuntu 6.10 will be the first Debian based distro I'm gonna use, so no packaging skills here. But I can't believe, that there really is no other Debian / (K/X)Ubuntu / Mephis zealot out there using ZoneMinder, who ...

Now that's bad, that nobody else using a Debian based distribution responded. There surely has to be quite a crowd out there, and they all install ZoneMinder manually from source? As mentioned, I found some howto's and tutorials, that's not the point, but it surely would make sense to have a package ...

Did anyone create a Debian (Ubuntu) package?

Just checked the download section, there is a link to http://www.computerntelecom.com/pub/linux/zoneminder/, but it only has an empty debian folder. I already searched the forum, and found the installation instructions for Ubunto Dapper 6.06, but of course a ready to use package would be nicer ...

tnlc, this is completely unrelated. FreeBSD is not a Linux distribution. It should be absolutely no problem, to run zoneminder in Ubunu Linux.

AFAIK, there is no good way to have all of the ZM capabilities on FreeBSD (a very incomplete FFMPEG port support). The basic configuration might run well, but it will probably require a lot of fiddling around. I know, that's why I think, I'll have to stick with Gentoo Linux on that machine ...

I think people have used ZM with FreeBSD. Unfortunately I don't have a FreeBSD box here to test it on but anyone who has is very welcome to feed back comments on what might need to be modified to get ZM running on it. I already search a lot, but could not find any information about a successful ...

FreeBSD Support

Didn't get a chance by now to test zoneminder with my Panasonic WV-NM100 network cameras, but I was just wondering, why zoneminder can not be found in the FreeBSD ports. I would not need any specific drivers for video capture cards for my cameras, so that would not be an issue... Are there any plans ...

Ok, I just downloaded the torrent for the liveCD, let's see how this works out. I could give you access to one of my cameras, cordel, if it doesn't work right away, I'll PM you in that case. Thany for the fast feedback.

Panasonic WV-NM100 anyone?

I am using some Panasonic WV-NM100 network-cameras to monitor some areas in our building, and I am wondering, if Zone Minder can be used with this device to record and automatic archive multiple camera-signals. That nice little Panasonic camera has a lot of features, like moveable lense, storeable ...
