I use a Q-See DVR (multiple cameras -> DVR -> port forwarding router), which normally connects directly to software on the receiving computer or phone. With the DVR, which goes through the router with port forwarding, is the server arrangement still needed?

Does ZoneMinder work in remote locations, or only as a local viewer? Or does it work remotely, but needs extra work and apps?

The download page seems to have different versions for each version of Ubuntu. Is this correct?

If so, what happens if the kernel is updated? If the Ubuntu version is updated? Why would this be needed?

What would be the correct version for 16.04?

I'm unable to determine if ZoneMinder will view a Q-See system remotely (Model QC40108, includes local DVR and screen - 8 cameras). ZoneMinder is not the local display software at the system site.
