Thanks bbunge, that is helpful. I seem to recall seeing that one of the recent zm updates provided a performance boost for storing video fro IP cameras. Do I have that correct and do I need to go to v1.30 to get it?

Upgrade advice
I have Zoneminder v1.25 running on Ubuntu 13.10 x64 with two IP cameras at my home. I've left it alone because it has worked reasonably well (kudos on a great product!) and I'm not adept with Linux. But it's getting so outdated that I need to get it current while it's still operational. Should I ...

Re: Safe to upgrade Ubuntu 13.10 / ZM 1.25 to 14.04 / 1.28.1
@dazed: thanks again. Regarding "cant be that hard...", when I upgraded from 12.04 to 13.10, ZM wouldn't start. I didn't have a large block of time to devote to it, and couldn't immediately figure out how to debug it. So about 10 days later I found the ZM configuration table had been overwritten ...

Re: Safe to upgrade Ubuntu 13.10 / ZM 1.25 to 14.04 / 1.28.1
@dazed: I appreciate the response, but a fresh install is what I was trying to avoid. I've tweaked many of the settings and I'm not anxious to start all over.

Safe to upgrade Ubuntu 13.10 / ZM 1.25 to 14.04 / 1.28.1?
I'm not proficient with Linux or ZM, and have a system that overall is working well. But I don't want it to get so far out of date that it can't be maintained. ZM is the only thing I use this box for, and it currently has 2 Chinese IP cameras tied to it via RTSP and using motion detection. I'm ...

AMD A10 vs. FX6300 cpu?
I'm building a second zoneminder system that will be used with 4 to 8 HD IP cameras. Cost is important, so I'm thinking that another AMD system is the most bang for the buck (it will be dedicated to zm). I realize that there's a significant CPU load required to unencode the H264 streams. Today I was ...

Re: Huacam HCV701/HCV712 vs. Axis 702w
I've had a Huacam HCV701 up for several months now. I originally bought it so that I could do the motion detection in the camera and keep the backend dirt cheap. But I just couldn't get it to work reliably, so I just set it to stream at 3fps and dedicated a cheap Linux box with zm on it. The video ...

Re: Everything seems to work, but alarms never end
I first deleted and re-created the zone and there was no change. Then I deleted the monitor then re-created it and set the zone up as before. It seems to be working now - thanks for the tip!

Re: Everything seems to work, but alarms never end
@bb99: there must be a third reason; I have no linked monitors, and my single zone is well within the frame boundaries - about 100 pixels from the nearest edge. Even so, I will delete the existing zone and put a new one in the middle of the frame and see if the symptoms change.
Thanks,
Ray

Re: Everything seems to work, but alarms never end
Hi Mihnea,
It's comforting to know I'm not completely alone and lost in Zoneminder land!
My next step will be to get Zonemminder source and compile on my machine. This is a big hurdle for me since I'm new to Linux. So let's hope someone can at least point us in a helpful direction.

Everything seems to work, but alarms never end
I'm brand new to Zoneminder *and* Linux, I've worked for a week to get this going. I've made it past most of the hurdles, but I can't find any info on this issue. I first installed Ubuntu desktop 13.04 on a brand new box quad core AMD and 4GB ram. Camera is Huacam HCV701, 1280x960 H.264 Ip camera. I ...
