Re: ZoneMinder Deletes 120GB+ (All?) Events With Little Provocation: Logs Inaccessable
Using an SSD for video recording is an BAD idea: you will kill because too much erase-write cycles; don't mind TBW value, it's only an optimistic value: where i work, i replaced some ssd which became paperweight before reaching their rated TBW value (in best scenario, ssd became read only, so i ...

Re: Video Storage deletion issues
It gets better with h264 storage, as you are only deleting 1 or 2 files instead of thousands. Iconnor, as you told me some time ago, raid5 doesn't boost performance on write; does raid6 do the same? dgossage, how many seconds last an event? I had same issue (with buffer overflow due disk slowness ...

Re: Video Storage deletion issues
I have a system with 15 cameras. It's running Centos7 and the storage is using zfs raidz6 4TB WD Red drives. @15TB useable space currently I'm starting to run into the issue where I am writing faster than the system is cleaning up the images and directories. I've even taken to writing a cleanup ...

Re: Camera Brands/Models That Can Disable IR LEDs
A little late: on DS-2CD2020F-I (HIKVISION), i can disable IR leds (i can set manual IR power, so i have to set to 1%)
However, i live in front of an field with a lot of water, but bugs aren't attracted at all by IR light (only spiders do web near cameras, only because their position).

Re: Camera shows no picture. Socket does not exist
in my servers (ubuntu and debian), usually i do this:
cd /usr/lib/cgi-bin
ln -s /usr/lib/zoneminder/cgi-bin/zms zms
ln -s /usr/lib/zoneminder/cgi-bin/zms nph-zms
This will link zoneminder cgi to apache cgi.
Remember to set correct permissions with chmod!

update: despite 4TB hdd smart status, i'm using it without issues. apparentely, disabling APM as told here, https://askubuntu.com/questions/134279/how-can-i-turn-off-hard-disk-power-management-in-12-04 is working. i did a light offload from 1TB drive saving one camera events in an expendable old ssd.

Re: iptables, nat; How do I block camera from the internet
overkill? Maybe, but it will kill all unwanted traffic in lan (my situation is external lan cables across the house on external wire pipe, this will increase security a bit). Now, i'm using an budget cisco SG300 (used), i configured private vlans, so camera network can communicate only with my ...
