avast seldom if ever crashes on a stable system, I suspect you have another issue causing it.

That being said, do yourself a favor and get off of Windows... Linux, OSX, FreeBSD, ChromeOS,doesn't matter.... friends dont let friends use windows, its an admin headache.

in a business setting you would use VLAN's. If you have a router with DDWRT, openWRT or similar you could setup VLAN's as well..... or use separate LANs I gotta ask though, you shouldn't have that high of bit rate, I can't imagine 8 cams at more than 15MBps combined, and on a gigabit network that is ...

you should be able to do this with VLC. I'd just run vlc from the CLI from a non-gui version of Linux (to keep the overhead down). You should be able to use VLC to turn the video into an RTSP stream.

normally they are powered using the extra two power cables on the siamese cable. A power adapter is plugged into one end (by the DVR machine) and it comes out on the camera end where you plug in the camera.
