a suggestion: ddclient
Ross you could add this little software in your LiveCD http://ddclient.sourceforge.net it keeps Dynamic DNS entries updated so one can see his ZM server on the web even if he doesn't have a static IP. I did a webmin module to control it but is very bad coded and is in italian... but if someone is ...

webmin module
I did a webmin module to control ZM. It does quite few things: controls zmpkg.pl (start, stop, restart, status) no multilanguage... but is a start... here it is: http://www.davidemorelli.it/public/zoneminder.tar to install: like any other webmin module untar it in /usr/share/webmin so that you get a ...

how to upgrade zm: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3306&highlight=zmalter tu use WMP you have to set the streaming output file type in Options, set it to "asf". That should be enough, if not check ffmpeg documentation. WMP has a buffering issue: you will always get a 5 seconds delay ...

I might be wrong but it seems that the problem is the BTTV driver. Can you tell us exactly what card is it? (manifacturer, model, etc..) If you are lucky your card is not autodetected and you just have to tell BTTV the model it is. This happens for me with GrandXGuard16P, I have to add "bttv card ...

I don't think the problem is in perl.. I think this code will work for every version up to come... use constant ZM_PATH_BIN => "/usr/local/bin"; use constant ZM_PATH_WEB => "/var/www/html/zm"; looking at http://67.167.143.228/errors-zm/zmpkg.log.txt I noticed you had problems with executing shell ...

I am not shure I understand your question but: any video source can be watched while recording. The video streaming is done via ffmpeg while the security functions are done with zm's demons. Many clients at a time can watch the video source simultaneously, the major limit is your bandwidth (I think ...

Your configuration commands look corret, so I think it is a MySQL problem... Are you shure mysql is working well? any other software using it? I am not a mysql expert, so I can't help you much... Try googling with "Got timeout reading communication packets" and see if you can find the source and the ...
