Re: Scalability, wireless quality
Those are megapixel cams so, if you choose to capture at full size, will use twice the bandwidth and data of 640x480. You also don't mention fps, so I'll assume 5fps. 2tb drive is good. Should allow for several weeks (do the math if you want accurate) Cpu should be ok. Don't know any quads too slow ...

Use soft links only with caution. Upgrading may remove them and kill your database;
Hard links better. See:

I don't have any spare servers to play with this, but
Thank you - great to see things moving again around here!
Should cut down on at least half the support questions!o FEATURE - Mapped memory (versus shared) is now the default.

Re: Search video surveillance system with >20 cameras
You don't need any special software for that, other than the computer running the display - with a quad head graphics card. If you're using ip cameras (and for a large site, analogues would be tricky to wire), you can simply create a local html file with <img> tags pointing to the mjpeg feeds ...

Re: noise on footage
What's the picture like at daytime?
It's not unknown for cameras to pixellate like this in times of darkness. I don't know whether it's camera or card, since I only use ip cameras, but certainly have a few of those which do exactly this.

Re: Mpeg y mp4
It's core to how zm is coded and cannot easily be changed. The frames are decoded from the stream for analysis (in modect and others) and then saved out as jpgs. Because zm deals with multiple types in incoming stream - analogue, jpg, mjpeg, mpeg4 - it needs to convert to a common format to prevent ...

free shows memory, but read wikipedia as it's not as straight forward as windows. Linux will use all memory where it can, allocating as cache and buffers. If you want a nice graphical representation, install munin and wait a few hours for it to propogate. That makes it easy to show how memory is ...

Actually, that is often a lot of faff since phpmyadmin won't accept large incoming files to restore. You can copy the dumpfile locally and import from there, but even then often times out. If you just want the setup and not the events, then phpmyadmin is handy since you just select all the tables ...

If you're doing low fps, use the jpg. Some cameras (Axis) allow you to set the mjpeg fps by default or by url (&req_fps=5) but most of the cheaper bracket just throw as much as they can at you. That fps varies depending on the number of simultaneous viewers so isn't even slightly predictable. zm ...
