I have struggle with it as well, I wanted to upgrade to 1.3, but couldnt' get it to work. Luckily I had an image of a 1.29 version, so I'm still using this one. You may want to look into installing version 1.29. It can be a little tricky to get installed. Best of luck!

I think I found out that root=www=data during the installation of zoneminder, and I don't think I want to mess with that, so www-data it is lol Not that big of a deal I guess.

Just make sure the resolution is the same on both, you can modify the resolution with IP Webcam, I suggest you put something simple there like 640 x 480, that's what I did, and it works great ...
