Re: Compatibility with ELP 1080P Megapixel Industrial Mini IP Camera
I read the Amazon reviews. My take away from them follows. Please bear in mind that some Amazon reviews are fakes and others are done by people who don't have the best grasp of what the reviewed product should actually do. I tried to filter them out myself, but no garantee my filter is all that much ...

Re: Best distro package...Linux, Debian, Red Hat or what?
I don't really understand. If i need going to root user i just tape "sudo su" (on ubuntu or raspbian) or "su" on debian/ubuntu minimal. I have some server, for me ubuntu/Debian it's same (i just prefer ubuntu on server for more up-to-date software by default but if not it's same). That doesn't make ...

Re: Best distro package...Linux, Debian, Red Hat or what?
Ubuntu don't block root user, the root user is the main user :) (same with "pi" user on raspbian, a debian distro :) ) Ubuntu-Minimal (on Odroid) as root user different than main user. (same comportment than debian server) When did that change? When I installed Ubuntu, admittedly several years ago ...

Re: Best distro package...Linux, Debian, Red Hat or what?
You will have to learn the command line, at least to the extent that you know where and how to look for help, no matter which distro you choose. ZoneMinder just isn't plug and play. Personally, I prefer Debian over Ubuntu since Debian doesn't try to block the user from becoming root. However, more ...

Re: Bandwidth
Many browsers have site specific settings that allow you to toss or keep cookies on a per site basis. Just keep the cookies from the machine running the zoneminder server, which may or may not be the same as the client. That's what I do. All cookies other than those from the sites I want to keep are ...

Re: Wansview W3 WiFi cams feeds stop - "CLOSE_WAIT"
"Good to know about the Ethernet run being more stable -- if I start having issues where the lock-up on me, I'll try that method. I will probably do it regardless, so I'm not using so much of the bandwidth of the 2.4 GHz spectrum." I'll just add that these cams were the only thing I had on 2.4 GHz ...

Re: Wansview IP Cams working nicely
I have two WansView W2s that were nothing but trouble on WiFi. They would lock up randomly and require power cycling. One might run for weeks without trouble, then fail almost daily for another week. The other failed every now and then and once went almost two months without a problem. I had no ...

Re: Wansview W3 WiFi cams feeds stop - "CLOSE_WAIT"
Not sure if this will help or is applicable, but it might be of interest. I had two WansView W2 cameras running using WiFi until I could run Ethernet cable to them. They would lock up at random times and require power cycling to get going again. Oddly, one of them was much more likely to fail than ...

Re: Camera Brands/Models That Can Disable IR LEDs
Unfortunately, Axis are out of my price range.
Good info though.
Found another one which I bought on spec. I just finished verifying that the IR LED disable switch does not disable the IR Cut filter.
Amcrest IPM-743E.

Re: Camera Brands/Models That Can Disable IR LEDs
Hmm, no replies so far. There must be a lot less folks having this problem than I thought.
I did find one current model that meets my needs. I'll list it here, and also post any others that I find to this thread.
Hikvision DS-2CD2042WD-I.

Camera Brands/Models That Can Disable IR LEDs
I live in the woods and have discovered that built in IR illuminators are a no go for me due to the bugs they attract, which in turn trigger false alarms, so I use external illuminators mounted a few feet offset from their cameras. My installed outdoor cameras all have their internal illuminators ...

Re: Cloud service integration
I wrote a couple of Python scripts that copy ZM event JPEGs to a NAS folder that is synced to a cloud storage provider. All automatic, including removal of deleted event JPEGs from the cloud site. Bottom line, somebody violates one of my monitored zones and the photos are stored on servers located ...

Re: how to disable weather to trigger events?
I found that setting the Buffers / Alarm Frame Count to 2 or 3 greatly reduced the number of wind related events I was getting. I have settled on 2, as 3 caused the occasional missed event. Most of the areas I monitor are heavily wooded. On a windy sunny day, moving shadows of leafy branches caused ...
