ok, I think I've found a clean solution to this, but it will have to wait until I upgrade to a 2.6 kernel. It looks like the new version of pwc has a sysfs interface to the pan/tilt calls which will make scripting a piece of cake!

Looking at the code for setpwc, I see that to open the device, it does: *fd = open(device, O_RDWR); then to issue a pan/tilt, calls: ioctl(fd, VIDIOCPWCMPTGANGLE, &pma) I see that zm opens the device the same way in zm_local_camera.cpp, so I'm guessing that v4l doesn't allow shared opens of the ...

Integrating PTZ with ioctl controlled camera

I have this Logitech Orbit I've been looking into integrating with the the PTZ functionality in 1.21. The control of the pan/tilt is through ioctl calls specific to the pwc driver. The problem is that only one device can have control of the device at the same time. There is a command line utility ...

that may have been it? I was playing around with it and it started working. I was tweaking the perl scripts for the RH9 issue, so I'm not sure whether it was that and/or the restarts that fixed it. In any case, thanks for the response!

ok, did some more looking around and it seems like the problem is that the php calls are not getting the output from the various perl scripts. In zm_funcs.php/daemonCheck(), $result = exec ($string) where $string is /usr/local/bin/zmdc.pl check doesn't populate $result. Running the above command in ...

fixing status label in index.php

Just upgraded from 1.19.4 to 1.20.1. Took a bit of work, but everything seems to be working fine now. The only remaining problem, which is just cosmetic, is that the status doesn't show correctly. It always says "Stopped" no matter what. Any hints on how to debug this problem? Thanks!

thanks for the info! I've had this card laying around for many months now. I had intended to patch the driver myself to support it but hadn't had any time to tackle it.

Yes, I agree about the inferiority of USB cameras. First they use inferior imagers - even the higher end Logitech Orbit camera I'm using with it's CCD (not CMOS) sensor doesn't have great picture quality. Second, the cpu utilization is horrible. On my 1Ghz P3 512mb, I have this USB camera, and a ...

I have experienced the same thing. I don't think it has anything to do with zones, as I don't use them.

I posted previously on the feature requests section, suggesting a way to combine events that are very close together.

combine events

I've noticed that what I would consider one event is often split up into multiple consecutive events. For example, if a person walks into a room, pauses to look at something, then turns around and leaves, this will most likely be captured in at least 2 seperate events. It would be nice if there was ...

I think this is a terrific idea. A really cool way to implement this would be to use the existing event list screen and add a "view checked" button next to the delete button. That way you could check the events you want to see and click one button. With any kind of continuous playback, it would also ...

ok, now that I'm more familiar with how zm works, I now see that this may not practical. Given that zm uses a buffer of previous images, to provide images immediately prior to the alarm, this would make things kind of messy. I suppose the lower resolution images could be upscaled to make things ...

If the picture is accurate on the compgeeks site: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SEC800A&cat=VID I suspect that you will have a difficult time getting ports 5-8 to work. It appears that this card only has 1 BT878 chip. The chip has 4 inputs, and that's how manufacturers implement 4 ...

change resolution for motion detect vs capture

How about being able to change capture resolutions for detecting motion vs capturing images? For example you could use 320x240 for motion detection and when an event is triggered, switch to 640x480. It seems like this would minimize cpu utilization while allowing you to get the highest quality ...
