If I view 4 camera's in the montage view, my cpu (of the client computer with windows XP) is going up to the 100% usage.. If I view the same montage view with firefox (on the same pc) it only goes to ...

Maybe have a look at how much shared memory you have available?
do that with: cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmall

I guess removing the ffmpeg package would do the trick as the --without-ffmpeg doesn't do a thing ?

Have you gotten any further on getting it compiled? I'm getting exactly the same error as you.. Will be trying out an 'older' version later today, if it succeeds i'll post it here.
