I would pull the graphics card from the big machine, under clock the processor, and remove as many of the fans as you can, including possibly a smaller power supply. The older machine, will do fine. Maybe struggle recording 4 (640) cameras at full speed, but I think 2 (640) would be okay at your ...

bttv card=77 - which palette?
My card is a cheapo bt878 card=77 I can only see to get the palette Grey running, nothing else shows in the view (showing an empty image container, but not a broken image container). zmdc.log shows this 10/05/09 16:02:31.696172 zmdc[4037].INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' stopping at 09/10/05 16:02:31] 10 ...

Did that, symlink. Pointed ZM back to "events" and made a symlink from there to my mount for the other HDD. For now my setup is broken again (won't record), but I think that is just permissions. The option for the path, shouldn't it say somewhere that it needs to be relative to the zm apache root ...

Events won't display
Modetect is recording, and storing images in its folders. But nothing is being displayed in the Events view. /var/log/messages Aug 16 20:15:04 gentoo zms[4779]: ERR [Can't open /var/www/localhost/htdocs//mnt/hdd/zoneminder/events//1/09/08/16/19/59/27/001-capture.jpg: No such file or directory] This ...

On searching more I found to turn off the V4L_MULTI_BUFFER option can help for certain circumstances. For me it works, flicker free @ 320 and 640. Though it causes each camera to run at a low 4.27fps each (both resolutions). Before they would reach just over 10fps each. Machine spec isn't so bad. 3 ...

bttv works okay for 1 channel at a time...
I have a positively identified bttv card 77. 30fps, 4 channels. It works fine both using a module and in-kernel with boot options (to set card=77 etc0. So single monitor setup, it works okay. If I setup a second monitor (exact settings). Still only one camera plugged in, the first image quality ...

Ubuntu always detected my bttv cards as video0 *and* vbi0... they are the same device. As the link says, you have 4 devices (one per chip on the board), each with 2 channels (0 and 1). This means you have 30fps per "device" to share. So the 120fps is just 4x 30fps chips... you won't get any higher ...

Your dmesg is also showing "tuner absent", as there is no tuners on this board. set tuner=-1 Just card=77 tuner=-1 should suffice for this card. Adding to the modprobe.conf is _Depricated_, it means your distro no longer uses this method. Instead create a new file in /etc/modprobe.d/ called "bttv ...

kernel driver vs module
I selected bttv/bt878 to be compiled into the kernel... if I needed to enter something into the /etc/modules.conf would it still work as if it was compiled as a module instead? The card I have is confirmed working, but I have to use options bttv card=77 tuner=-1 in /etc/modules.conf But since I am ...
