I never used cards, just ip cams...
Today I tested a system with amd64 3200, 2GB, libjpeg-simd, 28 ip cams, 640x480 color at 0,1 fps and I obtained a Load Average of 0.04/0.2. I am impressed!

No, i'm not ... in my previous post i wrote "1.5/2.0 fps": it was wrong. I get 0.5/1.0 fps, that is 1 frame each 1.0/2.0 secs. This variation is due, imho, to the load of the server.

so i should be ok, with a 4600+ and 2gig of ram, for 8 cam Yes, I have a production system with 8 ip cams (axis 211 with mjpg), Pentium 3ghz, 2 gb of ram, kernel 2.4.31, reading 1.5/2.0 fps at 640x480 in colors, plus firefox reading all cams in streaming, that show a Load Average of about 4.5 ...
