Re: failing at the start of the install - mariadb
Looks like it's not running. Failing to start, fantastic. This is a clean install...I guess it's no big deal if I have to start over. root@videosurv:~# service mysql status ● mariadb.service - MariaDB 10.3.34 database server Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/mariadb.service; enabled; vendor preset: ...

failing at the start of the install - mariadb
Greetings, My Zoneminder system crashed (lost /var) so I had to reinstall Ubuntu Server from scratch. I installed 20.04.4 and patched it prior to starting the Zoneminder setup. The RPMs installed fine, but the next step is to harden the database, which fails. root@videosurv:~# mysql_secure ...

Re: lines on screen when second cam is added on channel
Something else that I just noticed as well is that the lines appearing are not happening at the same time between the cams sharing the port. One will get lines, and then the other will get lines, or a couple on both at once. There is no consistency to it at all. And it's not continuous. It may go 30 ...

Re: lines on screen when second cam is added on channel
Many thanks for the additional input. There's a REALLY good chance that my modprobe isn't correct, but that's the only one I could seem to get working. Here's an example image. The blue lines are the problem: https://ibb.co/fjm6ab 2 cams on the one chip and the other ones shut down make no ...

Re: lines on screen when second cam is added on channel
Yeah, I'm still old school because I have too much of an investment into analog gear. Some day I'll move to digital.
All cams are at 5 FPS analysis, 10 FPS max, and 15 FPS alarm max.
Thanks for the input, it's appreciated.

lines on screen when second cam is added on channel
Hello. Using version 1.30.0 on Ubuntu. I have 4 cams running on a generic Conextant 878a 16-port (4 chips). When running only one cam on each /dev/video channel, the image quality is good. But if I add a second cam to any of the channels, I get intermittent lines on some of the horizontals (not a ...

Re: new install on Ubuntu, not finding Kodicom 8800
Turns out the card was dead. Swapped it with another card and good to go. These cards seem to burn out fairly easily.

new install on Ubuntu, not finding Kodicom 8800
I had to flatten my server, so I figured I'd go to the most recent Ubuntu (17.4). It installed fine, and the new docs for installing ZM are fantastic, it was a breeze. The problem appears to be my input card. I setup the bttv.conf in modprobe.d, and it finds the card fine. But no /dev/video* gets ...

Re: static in images
The problem seems similar to this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23440&p=89327&hilit=static#p89327
It appears to be a known problem. That's very unfortunate. Has any solution to this been found yet, other than having to go to IP encoders?

static in images
Finally got my 1.28.x system up and running, and I'm seeing something unusual that I didn't see before. I get a lot of "static" in the images, as in horizontal lines, usually randomly placed around the area where there is motion (using modect to trigger capture). I've heard of this before, but can't ...

Re: Kodicom 8800 problem
A follow-up to this. Looks like the card was dead. I swapped it out with a Kodicom 4400R that I was using previously (upgraded to the 8-channel because I had 5 cams that I wanted at full rate, and the 4400 couldn't do it). The 4400R worked flawlessly, so the 8800 must unfortunately be toast. Most of ...

Kodicom 8800 problem
I just reinstalled my system (it was offline for a couple months, waiting on new parts) and decided to go with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I'm fairly certain that this was the version I was using previously, though it's possible I'm mistaken. Since it's been a while and I couldn't remember the bttv options, I ...

Bingo! That was it. Yes, I followed that procedure, but must have missed that step.
It's working great now, thanks.
