Re: Seeking hardware recommendations for (12) 1920p IP camera system
I used this bundle from NewEgg: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157543 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233692 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117402 You can probably find something 2x faster for 1/2 the price by now. ;) I ...

Re: High resolution performance - need help
Thanks for the help. We just purchased our new house yesterday, where the cameras are going to be installed, so this week will be 24/7 craziness as we repair to so we can move in this coming weekend. I will post all the info that you ask for as soon as I get 10 minutes in front of the computer to ...

Re: High resolution performance - need help
Thanks guys for the replies. My tmpfs on /run has 1.7GB free. The other tempfs mounts have nothing used. @knnniggett - I definitely did not ignore your hardware recommendations. In this case I've only got 2 cameras running, one at a relatively low resolution of only 920p, so I don't think it's a ...

Re: High resolution performance - need help
Ubuntu server, the latest stable release. I'll get the exact version next time I'm in front of the computer. It's a fresh install.

High resolution performance - need help
I just built a new very fast machine, and it cannot encode frames fast enough at higher resolutions. Is there anything I can do to improve it? At 1920p (2592x1920) 32-bit color with the camera set to 15fps, I'm actually only getting about 2fps both recorded and in the live monitor. CPU load is ...

Re: Storage Spread Over 5 Drives
In regards to fast hard disks, this article was an interesting read (with benchmarks): http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/surveillance-hard-drive-performance,3831-6.html Based on that article, I ended up with a pair of Western Digital Se drives. Each drive has 2 processors and handles multiple ...

Re: Storage Spread Over 5 Drives
I'm getting ready to do the same thing, combine multiple drives onto one big space. What is the advantage of using zfs over ext4 and LVM?

Re: Storage Spread Over 5 Drives
Use LVM in Linux to add them to a single volume group. You can add and remove disks as necessary. Google volume groups.

Re: How Much CPU do you Need for Megapixel IP Cams?
The cameras mentioned above already have two streams, and ZM has triggers which include motion detection from cameras. From what I understand, the ONVIF motion detection is not handled in the mainstream ZM yet, but one of the people working on it (Jan Hochstein) has got it working in the version in ...

Re: Seeking hardware recommendations for (12) 1920p IP camera system
Well I decided to go the ZoneMinder route and ordered my new hardware last night. I know you said the more cores the better, but due to time (to research) and space constraints I just picked up a 6-core i7, 16GB RAM and a pair of 4TB WD SE hard disks with a small ATX case. I need to hide this in a ...

Re: Restart Specific Monitor
On the main ZoneMinder web page, click the "log" link in the upper right. The log will likely show errors when your camera stream quits, hopefully the errors will be helpful.

How fast does the hard disk need to be - 10 cameras?
I'm building a dedicated ZoneMinder PC and I'm wondering what level of hard disk I need to buy? My goal is 10-12 cameras, possibly up to 5MP (1920p), 7fps. My top choice with be a Western Digital SE 6TB, their data center drive because it handles multiple streams faster than any of their others, but ...

Re: How Much CPU do you Need for Megapixel IP Cams?
I'm really curious as to the hardware requirements too. I'm thinking of using ZM with about 10-12 5MP cameras at 7fps, and for form-factor requirement I'm thinking of a 6-core i7 with 16GB RAM. Also I saw it mentioned somewhere the idea to make 2 monitors for each camera, a high res and a lower res ...

Seeking quality 1080p+ IP camera for $150 or less
Can anyone recommend a good 1080p or better IP camera that has reasonably good night vision in the ballpark of $150/ea? I have some GW brand analog cameras with fantastic night vision, so I picked up a GW 5MP IP camera hoping for the same but the night vision is less than impressive. Specifically ...
