I'll keep you posted
Newbie help required on install
OK so i ran the LiveCD and got ZM capturing images form the camera etc.
Ran the installer, selected the MBR of the drive and hey presto, booted into mandriva desktop.
I am now back to the same point as before.
"Connection refused....error trying to contact localhost" error
almost like newtorking is not set correctly?
thanks

Get yourself a konsole prompt and enter the command "sudo service httpd status" or just do "sudo service httpd restart". See if that solves the problem.
Also be aware that you may get a desktop running and fire up the browser while the webserver and ZM are still starting up in the background, so give it a moment or two and try again. If you are fast on the trigger try this first before the above.
The network will most likely need to be reconfigured after installation, though this should have no effect on using ZM from the host machine.
Sounds like you're 99% there so keep us posted and we''l get this resolved.

OK so i ran the LiveCD version and all is OK. I can surf the web, look at drives, capture images from the camera etc.
After a successfull installation process, i reboot and get all sorts of errors to do with USB ports, and that another process has control of 127.0.0.1
Needless to say i cannot get anythng to work.
What can be so differenent between the LiveCD running ZM and the install method?
I ran "sudo service httpd status" and it was up and running
I also ran "sudo service httpd restart" and it stopped and restarted httpd2
Currently reinstalling from the LiveCD again and if this fails then i'll try another distribution Fedora Core4? and try the long winded method of getting ZM up.
Thanks for all the advice so far

I don't have a Live CD for FC3 but I have a single CD installer that installs the basic requirements to run ZM (no compilers so you can not build from source, but these can be installed via YUM and I could walk you through how to do that if you so desire), installs ZM, and FFMPEG.
There is also availible X and Gnome Desktop and also Webmin.
I can mail a copy as soon as testing is complete on 1.21.3 and I move it to the ISO.
Let me know.

hi everyone, well after several installs of FC3 and no luck getting ZM to install via YUM, i took the brave step to completely get rid of my XP install and go all the way with Linux.
So i now have a two 15Gbytes disks with a successfull install, well at least ZM runs, from the LiveCD.
Couple of things.
1. when i start the browser i get a cycle of the system freezing every few seconds, for a few seconds. Prior to starting the browser all appears OK. The best way that this is visable is that the mouse/ keyboard 'stall' during this time. Makes getting around very fustrating.
2. I cannot see any image from the camera, it's just black. I did previously and i will try a boot and run from the liveCD later. I have tried several combinations of device/ channel number. I am using a Pinnacle Stereo TV capture card with a phillips chip set.
Could someone recommend some default brightness/ contrast/hue settings as i cannot get Xawtv to install
Got any ideas?
many thanks
