Has anyone done any RPM's for RedHat EL 3.

Post by ariel_ »

I am looking for some RPM's for installing on a RH EL 3. I have to set this up on them due to corp is only allowing Lisc Version here. I have right now a plain jane server setup with RHEL 3 no xwindows. (don't really see a need for it).

If there is none for the 2.4 setup I might be able to upgrade this server to RH EL 4. Are there any RPM's for it. I have seen where people talk about RPM's for Fedora Core 3. But there not the same last I saw. Any feed back would be very helpful.

Thank you.

At the moment there are no RPMs for either. The only distros I have to build on are Fedora and Mandrake (done by Ross). I have setup a build machine that runs virtual machines so that I can do other distro's so I just need to get either RH EL 3 or 4 and I can start building for them.

Is CentOS not just a 'built from source' Redhat EL? I think people have got the rpms working with that so it perhaps they'd work with EL.

CentOS 3.5 is a build from Red Hat EL 3
CentOS 4.1 is a build from Red Hat EL 4

Which are great builds and there yum and up2date servers are in my view faster then RH actuall ones.

I tried the Fedora 3 RPM and had some error's with it. I finally got my Linux Guru intern to fix them and get it installed. I am going to ask him what he did to fix this problem.

Thank you all for the help.

Today I installed the FC3 RPM on CentOS 4.1 without any problems...I have the dag rpm yum repository defined in my /etc/yum/repos.d, which enabled me to easily install the prequisites like ffmpeg, lame, etc via yum.
