zones to enable or disable by time

Post by seebaer19761 »

hi,

can be install the in the next version: zones to enable or disable by times.

I monitor my car parking space and if the car is gone, is always alert triggered by pedestrians and cars.
because the zones then monitors the road.

then I could for certain times, each creating a different zone.
that would be a great relief.

sorry for my bad english

I'm pretty sure you can already do this with cron.

Create multiple monitors for your parking space with different zones created on each, then use different run states to control which monitor is enabled at any one time.

Although it may be possible using additional software such as CRON, I think it would be a useful feature to include times for ZONES directly in ZONE MINDER.

I have a camera that is not conveniently located (up high out of reach) during the day everything is fine, yet at night a spider web cast in front sets off multiple zones/false alarms.

It would be nice to have the ability to add per zone a list of ON/OFF times. E.g. Add an "Add on/off time" button to the zone configuration interface. Zone Minder already has a scheduler so it shouldn't take too much to add something like this in.

+1 for this feature.

Being able to have a zone only active during certain hours of the day (or even during particular dates etc) would be a brilliant way to improve the zoning/modect system even further. I would personally use this for my car park spot, so that it only detects when I arrive home and stops monitors when I am not at home (which is at the same hours every day for work). Synchronising the zone with my personal schedule would be brilliant.

Normally I don't touch threads that have already started to smell slightly.
But in this case, I'm reaching for every possible synergy, because it's very surprising that this topic has so little appeal.

Unfortunately, the "run states" don't seem to pay any attention to the zone tables. Regardless of whether I create a "run state" with defined zones or whether I delete these zones again and save them under a new "state", only the last defined zones remain active.
What a pity. It would have been so easy.

So +1 from me too.

You would have to create multiple monitors, each pointing to the same camera but with different zones set for each, then use cron to switch between montitors (and their respective zones) accordingly. Does that make sense?

e.g.

Monitor 1: Streams from Driveway Camera with three zones A, B and C
Monitor 2: Streams from Driveway Camera with just two zones A and B
Use cron to trigger run states that either 'Enable Monitor 1, Disable Monitor 2' or 'Disable Monitor 1, Enable Monitor 2' as desired.

I agree with adanish's comment that it would be preferable to be able to do this without external tooling (cron) but I only mentioned/suggested cron as that was the intended approach at the time (gosh - 9 years ago! :D).

No one has offered to fund the feature, hence it doesn't exist.

I wouldn't be difficult to add.

Yes, that makes sense.
I've been using Zoneminder for over ten years now and still don't come up with ideas like this on my own. It's a bit embarrassing.
Thanks a ton.

In all honesty I probably read this tip from someone else!
