I set up ZoneMinder 1.30.4 according to the WIki on a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 16.04.4. (Only took me like 18 tries.) And now I'm setting up my first monitor.
My camera is a Hikvision DS-2CD2042WD-I.
I have set it up with the following path for the stream.
rtsp://UserName:ClearTextPassword@192.168.1.64//Streaming/Channels/1
Remote Method: TCP
Options: (Nothing)
ColorSpace: 32 BIt
Width and Height: 2688 and 1520
Name: Monitor-1
Server: None
Source Type: FFMJPEG
Function: Record (I've played around with setting this to MoDetect)
20 frames per sec is in all three fields, Analysis, Maximum, and Alarm
If I put the similar string into VLC on my laptop, I get video (Delayed by about 5 Sec)
rtsp://UserName:ClearTextPassword@192.168.1.64//Streaming/Channels/2
When I click on "Monitor-1" in the ZoneMinder front end I do not see video. (Even though it has captured events, probably from when I had it set up as MoDetect.)
It should be noted that I am also on a fresh install of Windows 10 on my laptop.
I am unsure if I need a plugin on the laptop or need to reconfigure ZoneMinder.
Fresh install, New Monitor, No video.
Re: Fresh install, New Monitor, No video.
Use Firefox or Chrome for a web browser. Not Edge or IE.
Two common errors:
PATH_ZMS is not set to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms
Camera resolution in Zoneminder does not match camera output. Use VLC (Tools, Media Information, Codec) to check camera Display Resolution.

Re: Fresh install, New Monitor, No video.
If I type path_zms, it says command not found. Can you help me out a little more, please.
DO I set this up from the web browser interface or the command prompt on Linux?

Last step:
IMPORTANT FINAL STEP: Open Zoneminder in a web browser (http://server-ip/zm). Click on Options - Paths and change PATH_ZMS to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms

Re: Fresh install, New Monitor, No video.
I found it last night.
Now when I click on the live view, it locks up, at the bottom it says "Receiving data from (server IP)"
I'm guessing 2688 x 1520 x 32bit @ 20 frames per second is a lot.

it is for sure...what is the /dev/shm value? (read the value on the web console)I'm guessing 2688 x 1520 x 32bit @ 20 frames per second is a lot.
Re: Fresh install, New Monitor, No video.
Not in front of the machine at the moment. I was able to get it to work by reducing the frame rate down to 10 (at the camera and in ZoneMinder) instead of 20.
