Installation Help

Post by Louie »

Hello to all Zone Minder members and of course, all of those responsible for creating and developing Zone Minder. I have visited on numerous occasions. I am a Linux newbie (about 6 months). I am using Xandros Open circulation editon 2.0 I would like to install zoneminder but I don't know exactly how to do it. I tried to follow the read me file but I can't seem to get it since I am still trying to learn Linux. If anyone can help me step by step I would greatly appreciate it. I am using a Sabrent SBT-SSPV surveillance video card with 4 BNC ports. Thank you, a friend from Queens, New York!

Hi Louie,
I don't think anyone has built this software on Xandros yet. As I have seen the software (Xandros) it only lived on my computer for a day. You should be able to follow the readme to install it assuming that all the required software is installed (See depenancies in the Hints and Tips part of the forum)_

Thanks, Cordel, I guess I'll have to try and figure it out. I tried the Mandrake Live CD a few months ago on my old OS which was Red Hat 9.0 but Mandrake and ZM only ran from the cd. I gave up. I have switched to Xandros OCE 2.0 which I only use as a server for pictures, videos, music and web surfing. I am a fairly proficient with computers, I have built three desktops, two running Windows XP (one of which is wirelessly connected), my third running Linux (for my own learning purposes). All are on my wired DSL home network (LAN) which also includes two printers on individual print servers, a wireless access point, an eight port VPN Firewall Router, and a wireless network security camera. None of my friends even know what Linux is! To be honest, Linux to me is not easy, with all the compiling which I don't know how to do, terminal sessions, etc. it's all very confusing. I have taught my self over the years using and diagnosing windows boxes but Linux (Unix) stumps me. I feel like an Idiot, Haha
