bt878 b/w on only 1 channel

Post by gregmac »

I have a bt878 (card=77) from eBay. No matter what camera I hook up to channel 2 (port 3) it shows up as black and white.. the rest of the channels are in color.

Is this a hardware fault (should I be sending this back?), or is there a setting that may affect this?

My modules.conf has:

module bttv radio=0 tuner=4 pll=0 card=77

I'm actually not too happy with the single-chip 878: once I set ZM_CAPTURES_PER_FRAME to 2, I only get about 1.33 fps with all 4 inputs. If I get a 4-chip card, will this improve? Are there other benefits to a 4-chip (ie, totally getting rid of interlacing problems, better/worse cpu usage)?

Yes. I actually ended up swapping two ZM monitors by changing the device number on each, so my b/w input was on a less important camera. Since the problem stayed with channel=2, its not an issue with the ZM config for that monitor.

I also tried physically swapping which camera was plugged into that port, and no matter what camera it is, goes b/w, and shows up properly in others.

This is why i'm leaning towards a h/w issue, I just wanted to check to see if anyone has had the issue before i try returning it.

nope it sounds like your right. I have a card that does this but because it has an svhs port . the only way for it to work is either b/w or give it a svhs signal. Sounds like ur cards shot

I have had a card do the exact same thing and found that it was not set correctly. I had to insmod the correct options for my card in order for it to work correctly. I don't remember the spacifics and I gave that machine to someone that was having problems so I don't have access to it to remind me :(
