I have found a solution to my other I/O requirement and it is a very nice solution.

Basically it is a Serially controlled unit with a very basic command interface and enough Inputs and Outputs to do everthing that I think is needed.
As it is a kit you build it yourself and all we would need to do is add the serial commands to ZM through a new Script and configuration page / tab for external I/O.
I will be using this unit for a mix of home automation and alarm monitoring with ZM once I get it in my hands.
