Is this thread OK for me to hop on or should I start another for issues with a fresh install on Debian 10? If not, I'll delete and repost.

I installed with this guide and updated my zoneminder.conf file to reflect this post.

Most things are working now but I'm having an issue recording from my remote monitor with my Video Writer set to X264 Encode. It looks like JPEG capture is somewhat working. I can see some images in events but also see NO DATA in the montage tab.
I do notice the following error in the logs when motion recording should be triggered:
ZoneMinder was not compiled with the X264 MP4 video writer, check dependencies (x264 and mp4v2)

I quick checked what packages are installed via "dpkg-l |grep 264" and see that I have:
ii libx264-155:amd64 2:0.155.2917+git0a84d98-2 amd64 x264 video coding library

This is very new to me so lmk if I'm leaving out any details. My installed version of Debian:
Linux ZoneMinder 4.19.0-5-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.37-5+deb10u2 (2019-08-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux

If you want zoneminder with x264 encode you will have to get it from zmrepo. I have just now made available there there requisite mp4v2 libraries and new master snapshot built using it. These are for amd64... still working on raspbian.

Thanks, I reset my image and pointed to the other repo. (deb https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/debian/master buster/)

Looks like it's working well enough now on 1.33.14. I'll make sure to move anything to the dev forum going forward.

Using: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian_10_B ... pro_Master

I tried to install zoneminder on Debian 10 and got the following error:

Detected db service is mariadb.service
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
Creating zm db
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
Error creating db.

I already use mariadb for another system and so it has a password. How can I get around this error?

It is still impossible to install! even putting the new commands that are in the Wiki
create zoneminder database and account but do not install

Detected db service is mariadb.service
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
Creating zm db
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
Error creating db.

dpkg-reconfigure zoneminder
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: zoneminder is broken or not completely installed
