can't stream events

I have a strange problem.. I can't seem to stream recorded events.

Live streaming works fine, but when I try to stream an event in the database, it just sits there forever (not a broken image). If I actually go directly to the image url, firefox says "cannot display image .... because it contains errors"

If I view source, it shows:

over and over. If I click on stills, it shows the images fine. Permssions look okay on my events directory (own by www-data, and readable by public). I don't know enough about zm internals to diagnose this, any ideas?

Check the logs indicated in the Troubleshooting section of the README to see if anything odd is showing up.
