Axis 221 Day And Night

Post by voronwe »

I Can now confirm that the Axis 221 Day And Night Camera is working with ZoneMinder.
This is a Network Camera with alot of functions that i havent had time to test yet, but initialy it is as easy to set up as the other Axis Network Camera´s that i have tested (Axis 206, Axis 205).

Interesting, let us know how you get on with it. Axis have a lot of realy nice looking cameras, they're just a bit on the expensive side to get just to play with.

My biggest problem with doing futher testing require me to go out to the custemer that i have installed it for (testing purpose), but when i do get out there i know there will be alot of testing.

Some of the features that iam interested in testing is the ftp / http / smtp service that that camera provide, and from i just saw yesterday the picture quality is alot higher than the once provide from the Axis 206 that we are testing out at the site, we have used the Buy and Try service that Axis provide atm, that means that u can try oput the camera for 30 days and if it dont live up to your expectations then u simply returen it.

One of the feature that iam interested in testing futher is the ability for the camera to automaticly switch from colur to Black and white when the lighting goes below a certain point.

I will post more info when i get it.

Hi M Asad Rasheed

I will agree that it is better to see things in writing, but with the Axis Camerars iam not gonna do this, since they have some really good descriptions on their site, witch James allready have posted here.

I've got one too and it's a great camera.

However, the night-time capabilities appear to be overrated. Spec says it goes down to 0.75lux but in practice that really isn't very dark and some illumination is required. This probably isn't the camera's fault, just actual limits of non-IR photography, I don't know enough to say - but it does have an iris and should in theory work better than the 205 and 206 ranges (which cost a third of the price) but in practice I'm not seeing a huge difference.

I will probably get another couple of 206's to complete this set, they're ~£130 compared to the ~£445 the 221 cost.

It has a few extra bells and whistles software wise compared to the 206, like inbuilt motion sensing, more res options, lots of tweaky bits - but ZM covers the motion sensing and the rest is not really that important.

Another feature i like about the 221 is the POE (power over ethernet).
