Just to tell you I have tried zm ondebian stable with package provied by Maximum
many thanks to Max to be helpfull for many others newbees like me. Simply to install and go start with zoneminder.I use a logitech quickcam pro, and it works fine with it. Didhave to install webcam drivers, but I have a link for those want to set a logitech up!

Zm install:
1) first, be sure you have installed at least mysql and apache:
#apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common apache
2) if you want the global package, send me your email to mk_zoneminder@yahoo.fr, or post to maximum.

4) if some other packages are missing to solve dependencies, just type "dselect":
--> *2 select pakage
--> space bar
--> enter
--> enter
This is ok???? you will see: Starting zoneminder: success
