Recording on mainstream and detection on substream

Good evening

Just recently installed 1.34.22 and upgraded to 1.35.16 as I read in another thread that the new version allows to record only on the main stream and analyzing on the substream...

So how would I achieve this?

Do I need to setup two monitor per camera, one for main and one for sub?

But how would zm know that they belong together so that in the event playback I still see the red bars marking motion but the playback is coming from the main stream?

ZM has allowed modect on substream and record on main stream for a long time. The only recent advance is that decoding can now be disabled on the main stream, saving resources.

Yes, you do need to set up two monitors per camera, sub and main. Set the sub stream to Modect and the main stream to Nodect. There is a setting called "linked monitors" on the general setup tab. On the main (high res) stream, on this setting choose the sub stream. This will cause the main stream to record whenever the sub stream alarms. Now just configure your zone(s) on the sub stream.

There is currently a downside, which is that while the sub stream alarmed frames will properly record the scores, the same event triggered on the main stream will receive frames with all the same score (50). This may or may not be a problem in your case, but personally I like to quickly scan the magnitude of events in the timeline view. This can be worked around by including the sub stream in your filter and timeline, but it's a bit "messy" IMO. The good news is I believe the fix is pretty straightforward, and it will hopefully be resolved in a near future release.
