New install 1.34.23

Post by kradoow »

So for close to 2 years, I have been running 1.33.1 regardless of folks saying I should not, it has worked fine for me. However I have recently added more cameras, 4 more, it pegged my cpu, using an intel i3 2 cores.... I installed 1.34.23 on xubuntu 20.04. on an intel i7 now. When I go into montage mode the cameras are constantly disappearing then coming back in random orders. The cpu is running at 50% now. I set the cameras up just as they were on the previous version. I am considering using the 1.33 on the new machine.

One thing I've noticed about Zoneminder is heavy resource utilization. It is by far, the hungriest of all processes:

That's 8 cams on an 8-core 2nd gen Ryzen. Most of the stuff in the first half of that list starts with a "z." It bangs around at 50% or better CPU utilization when things get busy. Running this on anything more than a few years old with more than a few cams and not enough cores is gonna be problematic. I imagine the minimum hardware spec for decent performance is gonna be fairly proportional to the number of cams supported.

Somebody who's installed alot more than me can probably comment better on that.

So the montage review seems to work well but the montage view is unusable the cameras keep disappearing and makes the browser very slow, when you click on a menu item it can take over 30 seconds for it to respond.

Who cares about privacy with cameras everywhere now, right!? I should mention for the purpose of my example, it's an all-default install, with the exception of increasing the buffers to 50, after seeing a log complaining about that. I like baselines and reference points. Sometimes I can't even formulate the right question when things get complicated.
