I had a disk crash last week. Zoneminder runs in a VM and shouldn't have been affected. I moved all my VM's to new locations and restarted. Things looked like they were fine and it was monitoring and capturing. I did a "yum update" to the latest version of everything and did some snapshot cleanup.
I noticed today that both zmNinja and the website cannot play back any events. I cannot review any events.
I get the error message (in the web gui):
"The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported."
at the bottom of the page. In zmNinja I just see it trying to download forever until you go back to live view.
I don't see anything in any logs in /var/log/zoneminder (since before the crash).
I noticed there was no directory /var/cache/zoneminder/events so I created it, but it went away after a reboot.
I'm at a loss, not sure where to look.

Re: cannot view events - CentOS 7
That's not right. And /var/cache/zoneminder/events is where the storage normally goes.but it went away after a reboot
You can verify that in Options - Storage - Default
Re: cannot view events - CentOS 7
I've had similar - same error message - this is what I did that sorted it for me.
In console, click on source
Go to 'misc'
Change "Default Method For Live View" from Auto to MJPEG
Yea, I know - listed as live view so how does it affect events? I dunno - but it fixed events for me.
