different montage
different montage
well, i just found ZM on the web and think is a really cool App, the only problem that i can find, is that even in the cameras computer, there is a noticeable delay (from streaming) between what happens and what u see... I just wanted to know, is there any way to create / use the devices directly from linux with VLC player for example (open device feature) i searched teh forums an found nothing about this...
Best Regards.

Not that i know to. I have had some success with tvtime but it can only show 1 channel at a time. If you have single inputs per chip you may able to use this but its a bodge. There are other posts about pulling the zm images straight out of shared mem but this is mainly to ease the load on the server and give us a more stable live view. Ideally if i was caperble id like to create its own gui that did this but its a huge job as you can imagine. BTW how long is your delay.
Are you in "High" or "Low" bandwidth mode? Is the ZM server on the same LAN as the PC you are viewing from? What is the load like on your ZM server (check while you are streaming)?
I'm pretty much a Zondminder n00b, but I have setup two Zm servers, one using a USB camera, and the other using normal video inputs to a quad chip card, and see no noticable streaming delay on either one.

heheh, i think i didn't explain myself quite nicely =P
the thing is that i want a montage on the Linux box, to plug a TV into the Video card Tv output to watch them, i don't care about the delay over the net, that "regular" thing but when watching the live cams off the box, i would like to have Video (not jpeg) signal from the board montaged in some way
i have seen in /dev the video0 and video1, but those are still mixed up, and saw loop0 ~ loop7 (thought local video loops for 8 chanels) but them could not be opened (access denied) so i ran out of ideas to dump the local board to screen =P

You can of course use a v4l loopback device. This was developed for Motion (the competition ) but should work with any V4L app. The url is http://motion.sourceforge.net/vloopback/ I think.
