Hi, I have tried install zoneminder for my two usb cameras - Creative Labs Web Cam 3 (OV511+, OV7620).
Using xawtv -c /dev/video0 I can see correct pictures. Starting zmc -d 0 is interupted about 1s and log has these lines:
Server starting at 04/02/10 16:51:57
'zmc -d 0' starting at 04/02/10 16:52:00, pid = 7536
'zmc -d 0' started at 04/02/10 16:52:00
'zmfilter.pl -m 3 -e -1' starting at 04/02/10 16:52:01, pid = 7540
'zmfilter.pl -m 3 -e -1' started at 04/02/10 16:52:01
'zmc -d 0' crashed at 04/02/10 16:52:01, exit status 30
What does mean exit code 30?
Any idea what is wrong?
zmc exit status 30 ?

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Hi Pavel,
Please check in /var/log/messages and if you see any errors not covered in the FAQ then come back with what you can see. It is also helpful if you include which version of ZM and which distro you are using.
Cheers,
Phil,

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Which distro are you using? It may be that errors are syslogged to a different file in /var/log. If you do 'grep ERR /var/log/*' are there errors anywhere?
You may well need to add options to your modules.conf if both cameras are on the same USB bus though this shouldn't cause a crash if absent just that images would not be captured correctly. It's worth trying with just the one camera plugged in to start with I think.

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Yes, syslog it has:
Feb 10 17:27:05 cool zmc-d0[7699]: ERR [Can't run query: Unknown column 'MinPixelThreshold' in 'field list']
it seems to be wrong created myql structure, may this cause this crash.
I will erase whole tables and do it again.
I use debian woody, stable, kernel 2.24.18, modules usb-uhci and ov511.
Is anyhere example what lines I should add in modules.conf?
Thank for your help,
Pavel

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Did you upgrade from a previous version of ZM? The MinPixelThreshold field should be created along with the rest of the DB except that it didn't exist before version 1.17.2 so you would have had to run the appropriate zmalter-*.sql scripts to create it.
What you need in your modules.conf depends on your system really. If you have no other cameras and both your USB cams are on the same USB bus then something like
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ov511
alias char-major-81-1 ov511
options ov511 cams=2
might well work. However I'm not an expert on this and it might be worth checking with the Ov511 driver homepage <a href="http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/">here</a> for further information.

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Phil, thank you very much for your yestarday help.
Now it seems to working :)
Now I will try to upload events to another web server machine.
Do you have some tips how to reduce CPU and memory consumption?

Re: zmc exit status 30 ?
Hi Pavel,
I'm working on some optimisations at the moment that will hopefully reduce CPU use by some useful amount. There are some tips on reducing CPU usage further in the FAQ section. The simplest way to reduce memory is to reduce the image size or the ring buffer size. This is set to 100 by default but is probably ok in most cases if reduced to 40 or even less, depending on how big your pre-event buffer is.

Thanks, I have already found it in the FAQ :)
Great to hear about optimalisation, hope to be soon. God luck with the work ...
