I just installed ZoneMinder on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 Server. This is my first time attempting to use ZoneMinder in over 5 years. I tried it once a while back and was not happy with it. But I like the new look and feel
However, I am unable to get the events to play back in the browser. I get a message "The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported." and I cannot seem to get passed it.
I have tried multiple computer and multiple browsers. Chrome seems to take a little longer to get to the error. It actually looks like its about to load then fails. Firefox and Edge fail instantly.
I am not sure what I am missing. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Cannot play back events
Re: Cannot play back events
I just set up a fresh Ubuntu 20.02 server and installed Zoneminder. I recommend using the following instructions: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu_Serv ... der_1.36.x
I used to use a mini.iso of 20.04 to avoid installing extra stuff. But, that old install would not allow the installation of UEFI so I downloaded a fresh Ubuntu Server install. I noticed the install has the option to install HWE kernel system but I did the standard install and upgraded to the HWE kernel.
It is important you set the timezone with "sudo timedatectl set-timezone America/New_York" but use your timezone.
I did not want the cloud stuff so I removed it before doing an upgrade with:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure cloud-init
sudo apt-get purge cloud-init
sudo mv /etc/cloud/ ~/; sudo mv /var/lib/cloud/ ~/cloud-lib
sudo systemctl disable open-iscsi.service iscsid.service
I've also discovered that using Mariadb instead of MySQL with Zoneminder my system runs with lower memory and processor use. Ubuntu 20.04 runs Zoneminder better than Ubuntu 22.04.
If you do not want to start over just compare the install steps my script does to what you did to install Zoneminder.

Re: Cannot play back events
Thank you! I will give this a try. Since it is a fresh install already, I may just start over with what you suggested. From my research there doesn't seem to be anything to point directly at this issue unfortunately.

Re: Cannot play back events
Starting fresh seems with the instructions above seems to have solved that issue for me.
Thanks again!
