API Archive event

I am working on a custom alert module for myself using python and several options to send alerts based on "importance". I have it working but I am trying to archive the events once they have been sent. I see in the returned JSON the Archived variable but how do I set it? I have tried for several days to find anyone else that has asked this question to no avail. I also dug into the url passed for a filter that is used to set the event archived but I do not see anything in the url when I execute the filter to indicate archive status.
