What Next? - Fedora core 3 install

Post by Bullwinkle »

I have installed the fedora core self install torrent on my system and have the apache server and mysql, zm servers running. On the web browser screen when I click on the ZM Console link to the http://localhost/zm page I get a mysql error (Could not connect to database: Access denied for user: 'ZM_DB_USER@localhost' (Using password: Yes)). I know litttle to nothing about mysql and I am fairly new to the linux environment. It is my belief that the self install has set up the database for me but how do I change and add users?
The camera that I am trying to install is the X10 camera with the Hauppauge WinTV Go card. Any help that you can give me will help greatly. I was using the windows/X10 Webmin software but found that X10 has terrible tech. support and with all the problems with windows
I have decide to go in this direction.

thanks

Cordel - Thanks for the response. I have gone to the link and followed the install. I set the chkconfig for both httpd and mysqld and entered a username and password in zm.conf but I am not sure what I need to due when I get to the /usr/lib/zm/bin/zminit file. How do I create and populate the database? As I said before I am new to the linux environment and I am learning my way around.

thanks.

just enter
/usr/lib/zm/bin/zminit

in your console window. It will then ask you for the user and password for the database which on a fresh install is:
user: root
password:

leave the pasword blank and hit enter and this will populate the database.

Cordel,
I guess that leads me back to where I started. I am not able to get the zm console window. I changed the user and password information in the /etc/zm.conf and I now get a
Access denied for user: 'bullwinkle@localhost' (Using password: Yes)) error instead
of the Access denied for user: 'ZM_DB_USER@localhost' (Using password: Yes)) that I was getting. Any suggestions?

thanks

This looks to mer like the configuration is not loaded in the DB. Unfortuantely I'm not sure whether that is a manual or automatic step in that ZM distro.

zminit handles populating the login for the database and calling zmoptions (modifided zmconfig.pl) to create the database.

I sounds like you have not yet started the mysql and apache servers. Are you following the instructions in the readme under installing from rpm?

Apache and Mysql are both up and running from what I can tell. Here is the output when I due a status of each

httpd (pid 3122 3121 3120 3119 3118 3117 3116 3115 3042) is running...

mysqld (pid 3009) is running...

I was thinking that it might be a file owership situation within apache. What do you think and where is the database file located?

thanks again guys.

Unless you done something to the permisions, Everything should start just fine with the instructions as laid out. Are you sure you added a user and password to the zm.conf (more than likely you did as it's not complaining about it being blank) and have run the app /usr/lib/zm/bin/zminit? This adds the user/password you put in the config file so zm can use the database and loads the database with the tables. I has to be ran after the database service has been started.

If you would like and the machine is available on the net, PM me the details and I'll get it going for you. I can also give ya a phone call if you would like.

I went back over everything and found that I had left a space between the the account/password request and the account/password information in the zm.conf file. It looks like everything is up and running now. I will now try to set up the monitors.
thanks guys for everything and I will let you know if I have further problems setting up the x10 cameras.

thanks again.
