I don't know where to put this, but I am using a 1.37.x release, so here goes:
I've got 8 cameras on my system right now, all outside, and I'm under oaks-- the shadows/light are constantly moving. The movement isn't just a little. Sometimes it's a half dozen small spots, and other times a couple large ones, and every day as the sun makes its way, there are enormous changes. Then there's the rain. I can't make zones to accommodate this; I don't think.
What I'm thinking is that I can't use any "Max" in zones settings-- no Max Alarmed Area, Max Filtered Area, Max Blob Area or Max Blobs-- because the shadows and/or rain will easily reach that, and if something happens during those periods, the system will be effectively non-functioning if/when someone trespasses (home security).
What I'm resigned to is that during these periods, the system is going to record just about everything, and I'll need to sift through it. If there's an experienced voice out there, does this sound right? (Fwiw: I'm nothing but happy with ZM, and don't mind this, but I'd like to be sure that's the case.)

Re: Trees/shadows
You can play with the refrence image blend to help with some of it, but what you describe is a fundamental failing of motion detection, and is why people get into AI detection.
Setting up the AI stuff is kinda a game changer and you don't need a gpu. Just running a couple images through can tell you if there is a human or a dog in the event.

Re: Trees/shadows
Nice. I started wondering about that after posting. Yesterday, I made a bunch of adjustments to "improve" the situation, woke up today to 5 gigs from just one camera, without even a deer crossing the driveway. lol. AI is on my list of things to do...
Thank you.
Thank you.
