POE camera issue

Post by blaczero »

Hey all, not sure where else to ask this, although I did send a question to Hikvision

I have a DS-2CD2183G2-I Acusense 8MP IP PoE Dome Camera that works fine when I have it plugged to a 6' RJ45. When I plug it to my 50' one, to mount it outside, it lights up, but never becomes available on SADP, never gets DHCP address.

I tested the 50' with my laptop, works fine, and with a RJ45 Klien tools tester, it says it's fine. Do I need to run a power supply or something after a certain # of feet away from the POE switch?

50' isn't that far. My guess would be that even though it tests ok, it actually isn't.

I'd check the poe voltage at the camera end, loaded. Might be too much drop to run the cam.

saw this too late, it was the switch (presumably not providing voltage as doug was saying)

put in my new 16 port POE and camera works fine

Were all the ports bad?

Didn't seem to be a port issue, I think the switch itself couldn't handle the wattage of the cameras. It was a cheapie
