Reolink PT Ultra camera

Post by hornetster »

Anyone know/have experience with this camera and Zoneminder??
Trying to figure out if there are any "not too expensive" battery/wifi cameras that will work successfully with Zoneminder....
Anyone?
Thanks.

If the camera can stream continuosly, it can work.
I don't think such a thing exists "off the shelf" due to low battery capacity.
AFAIK, you'd need to add your own battery/solar array to get that capacity, which means you don't need the camera itself to be battery.

I don't know if ZM would/could ever be "adjusted" to cope with the behaviour of cameras like these. The constant disappearance/disconnection which is "normal power saving operation" to the camera is nuisance/error behaviour to ZM.

The other thing to watch out for is cheap cameras that will _only_ stream out via WiFi to some "free" (currently) cloud service, which then sends the stream back to you. Four main faults with that scenario: a) Privacy, b) Efficiency/Resilience of streaming out-and-back, c) Free now -- pay-for later? d) "Sorry, service closed down, please buy new camera!"
